Fire Department Receives $305,000 Federal Grant From Congressman Pascrell

Mayor Peter Massa announced the borough will receive a $305,000 federal grant for fire safety thanks to the efforts of Rep. Bill Pascrell (D- 9th District)

Il $305,000 grant will be matched by$15,000 expenditure by the council, said the mayor.

“We truly appreciate Rep. Pascrell’s efforts to obtain federal funding to outfit our volunteer firefighters,"Ha detto Massa. “We are well aware of Rep. Pascrell’s long standing commitment to public safety and he has come through for us.”

Councilman Peter Norcia said the grant was written by the borough’s fire chief Mark Zidiak for money to replace self contained breathing apparatus worn by firefighters. The air packs are due for replacement in 2018 and can now be replaced earlier. The air packs have a lifespan of about 15 anni

“I want to thank Rep. Pascrell for his diligence in pursuing the grant, especially in these economic times when municipalities need all the state and federal assistance we can get,” said Norcia.

“I also want to thank Chief Zidiak for his diligence in pursuing this grant that is important to the safety of our dedicated volunteer firefighters,” said Norcia.
