Work begins on repaving Route 17 between North Arlington and Rutherford

Bergen County residents can look forward to a smoother ride on at least two sections of Route 17 this fall, but it will mean dealing with lane closures during peak travel periods.

The state Department of Transportation today announced it has already begun work to repave a 4.5-mile stretch of Route 17 between the Route 7/Belleville Turnpike in North Arlington – the southern terminus of the highway – to Pierrepont Avenue in Rutherford.

It has also begun resurfacing work on the portion of Route 17 between Route 120/Paterson Plank Road in East Rutherford, to the Carlstadt/Wood-Ridge border.

NJDOT Spokesman Tim Greeley said crews have already begun drainage and curb work in the northern portion, which is less than a mile long. The resurfacing will be in both northbound and southbound lanes. Read More
